  • Support from the Manx Lottery with a Dormant Asset Fund Grant

MLT Case Study: HBOT IOM (Hyperbaric Chamber)
In 2021, the Charity received a grant of £35,305 from the Manx Lottery Trust Dormant Assets Fund
to support the role of the Project Manager / Chamber Operator / Administrator for 12 months. This
funding has allowed the person undertaking the multifaceted role to continue project managing for
the anticipated arrival of the new chamber, which was due to be in October 2022.
Hyperbaric Medicine provides relief to people who experience and suffer with pain, usually caused
by a medical condition, injury, or driving incident, by administering effective oxygen therapy inside a
treatment chamber. All restricted funds which are donated to the Charity for the capital project, be it through direct donations, fundraising or left in a legacy, go directly to speeding up the project schedule which meant there was very little revenue or additional funds for full salaries. The role which the funding supported is absolutely vital in ensuring the logistics and preparations for the new chamber are thoroughly implemented. As well as organising the delivery and eventual installation of the new equipment, the team have also been coordinating the construction of a clinical room, storage room, new waiting room, along with an emergency room, together with the refurbishment of the facility. Soon after delivery, the reconstruction of the front entrance, reception and new control room will also take place.
Debbie Barron, Project Manager/Chamber Operator/Administrator at HBOT IOM, reflects on the
importance of the funding a year on: ‘This extremely generous funding from the Manx Lottery Trust
has meant that I have been able to dedicate my time and efforts to the Charity on a full-time basis,
in order to move to the next phase which will, eventually, lead to the manufacturers arrival to install
and commission the chamber in 2023. Without funding, our operations would have significantly
halted and delayed the timescales set out for the arrival of the new chamber.
‘On behalf of HBOT IOM, we would like to say a huge thank you to the Trust for their support, and
for allowing us to continue with our work to get the project to the stage we are at today.’
